Nursing Home Administrator
 
The nursing home administrator is responsible for the overall operation of the Nursing Home Division of St. Barnabas Senior Living Services. This individual must be licensed as an administrator by the Tennessee Department of Health, and reports directly to the President/CEO. The responsibilities of this position include:

Management.  Selects, trains, and evaluates subordinate supervisors and professional staff; develops and implements skilled nursing facility policies and procedures; develops and controls division budget and authorizes expenditures; participates in executive policy and decision making committees to plan hospital program/policy development; coordinates the role of the skilled nursing facility with the other divisions, support staff and the community; monitors division preparedness and response to state and federal survey processes; evaluates division layout, equipment, employee utilization and work procedures.

Patient Services. Typical responsibilities: directs delivery of patient services through subordinates; establishes and coordinates guidelines and procedures for active treatment to comply with external requirements; develops and supervises division milieu to emphasize patient dignity and self-determination; ensures compliance with federal and state skilled nursing facility requirements regarding patient treatment, safety, health, and facility sanitation.

Medical Director
 
The medical director is a contract position that oversees the overall clinical management of the patient population while participating in Nursing Policy Development and Quality Improvement Oversight (QIO) Committee membership.  Further, the medical director ensures the timely delivery of physician services to all nursing home patients in accordance with state and federal guidelines and oftentimes is selected as the patient's attending physician. The medical director also services the licensed Assisted Living Division in the Retirement Apartment community.

 

 

 

Vice President of Residential Operations

Management. Selects, trains, and evaluates subordinate supervisors and professional staff; develops and implements assisted living policies and procedures; develops and controls division budget and authorizes expenditures; participates in executive policy and decision making committees to plan facility program/policy development; coordinates role of assisted living division, supports staff and the community; monitors division preparedness and response to state and federal survey processes; evaluates division layout, equipment, employee utilization and work procedures. Further, this position oversees the resident-run commissary and all leased areas (including beauty shop and parking lot adjacent to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church).

Patient Services. Typical responsibilities: directs delivery of patient services to the Assisted Living community through subordinates; establishes and coordinates guidelines and procedures for active treatment to comply with external requirements; develops and supervises division milieu to emphasize patient dignity and self-determination; ensures compliance with federal and state assisted living facility requirements regarding patient treatment, safety, health, and facility sanitation; facilitates solving concerns and suggestions made by residents and organizing activities for our active senior apartment community.

Director of Nursing

Required to a hold an active Registered Nursing License by the Tennessee Department of Health, this position reports directly to the nursing home administrator. He/She is responsible for the overall operations of nursing services in the Nursing Home Division.

The director of nursing develops and maintains the nursing-service objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedures manuals, and written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel; participates in budget planning; staffs the recommended numbers and levels of nursing personnel to be employed; plans and conducts orientation programs for personnel; plans and conducts scheduled in-service training for all direct resident-care personnel, and staff development. He/She is also responsible for participating in planning, developing and implementation of resident-care policies; participation in medical reviews as dictated by the residents' level of care; making daily rounds and coordinating nursing services with other resident services.

Chaplain

The Chaplain is charged to assist in fulfilling the spiritual mission of the facility. Duties include:  coordinating  religious services for the denominational faiths represented within our communities; hosting family support groups and resident reminiscing; making hospital visitations; and providing pastoral care services to all service levels of our continuum. Encouraging the continuing traditions of parish involvement in the lives of the St. Barnabas residents, the chaplain further serves as a vital link to the priesthood of the Episcopal Commission of Southeast Tennessee.  

 

 

       

 

 

Director of Development

The development director provides energetic, proactive leadership to build, implement and execute a comprehensive fundraising program for St. Barnabas Senior Living Services. The overall scope of the position encompasses the capital campaign, annual giving, planned giving, foundation grantsmanship, public relations and marketing.

The director of development is responsible for directing the annual giving program, managing the donor software database, acknowledging and recording gifts and pledges, performing prospect research, coordinating special events, and assisting with fundraising reports and foundation grant proposals. In addition, the development director is responsible for producing a quarterly St. Barnabas newsletter, updating the development-directed St. Barnabas Web site, acting as a public relations liaison to local media, and creating marketing materials.

Director of Admissions 
  
The director of admissions and marketing is responsible for maintaining a desired census and waiting list, communicating with the community, conducting marketing programs, speaking before civic groups and organizations, solving family problems, completing and maintaining admission records and documents, and working closely with referral agencies, organizations, and institutions.

Director of Food Services

This department supervisor is responsible for the production and service of high-quality meals to the Nursing Home, Assisted Living and Retirement Apartments; organization, supervision, and training of dietary employees; purchasing of food and supplies; providing a sanitary and infection-free environment; participation in the resident assessment process; writing care plans; and preparing menus. He/She ensures that food is palatable and attractive.

Director of Human Resources

The Human Resources director is responsible for preparing ads to recruit employees; screening of applicants/employees according to state and federal requirements; conducting orientation programs; in-service training programs; preparing employee evaluations; working with department supervisors to determine quantity and quality of necessary work force and needs and requirements; filing required federal and state employee records and forms at the time of employment, during employment, and at termination; handling insurance enrollment and claims; maintaining past, current, and future employee records and files; and maintaining adequate documentation for orientation, training, and counseling of employees.

Business Office Manager

The Business Office manager is responsible for being informed regarding current employee laws, rules, and regulations such as minimum wage and EEOC; producing necessary reports such as tax  statements, financial reports, federal, state and local  government reports; overall supervision of accounts payable and accounts receivable; billing Medicare, Medicaid, and third party payors, and the handling of confidential information. He/She must also be able to professionally and effectively deal with the public, staff, residents, families, and co-workers. This position oversees an Accounts Payable clerk.

Environmental Services Director

This individual supervises day-to-day housekeeping functions of assigned personnel; assigns personnel to specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and assure that schedules are followed; coordinates daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine-cleaning assignments in resident living and/or common areas; assures that personnel are performing assigned tasks in accordance with established housekeeping procedures; assures that housekeeping/laundry personnel follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies; assures that established infection control practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures; coordinates routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing services; trains and orients assigned personnel in the proper techniques of mixing chemicals, cleaning disinfectants, solutions, cleaning methods, use of equipment, etc., as directed; assures that refuse is disposed of daily and in accordance with the established sanitation procedures and conducts daily inspections of assigned.

Director of Social Services

The social services director directs and supervises all social service programs; evaluates the social needs or each resident admitted and formulates a written plan of care; reviews and revises plans as necessary, often no more than quarterly; and refers residents and families to appropriate community resources, as necessary. This position further serves  in a consultative capacity to the Assisted Living division.

Director of Activities

The activities director is responsible for organizing programs for group and individual activities based on residents' individualized needs as identified in each resident's health-care plan; maintaining a balance of recreational activities, including physical, social, religious, diversional, intellectual, and creative arts and crafts; formulating written plans of care for each admitted resident; reviewing and updating plans of care as required; preparing and posting monthly activity calendars indicating scheduled activities and times for coming months; offering activities at hours convenient to the residents (morning, afternoon, some evenings, and weekends); participating regularly in care conferences with nurses and other staff to assist in better understanding residents and their families; recruiting, orienting, and supervising volunteer programs; maintaining records of volunteer programs, and communicating the organization's volunteer needs to the community.

 


Mr. Mark Chalker

 

Director of Maintenance  
  
This supervisor is responsible for the constant attention and planning for the daily aging needs of the physical plant; maintaining required preventative maintenance logs and ensure compliance with facility, state and federal regulations; completing cost analysis on equipment replacements; conducting fire drills and maintaining appropriate life safety logs; ensuring that resident call systems are operating properly; and  training and supervision of support staff.

 

 

 

Director of Therapy Services

The director of therapy services is directly responsible for the delivery of physical, occupational, and speech therapy services to all service levels of our continuum in accordance with the guidelines of both the Medicare Part “A” and Part “B” programs. Participation in assessment, care planning, and discharge planning makes this position a vital member of the interdisciplinary team. This position reports directly to the nursing home administrator.
