St. Barnabas's Ministry to Families

The St. Barnabas mission as a healing ministry extends to families of our patients and residents.

During some of the most difficult years in the lives of patients, residents, and their families, St. Barnabas strives to promote healing to both body and soul. The spiritual and emotional comfort residents and patients receive from the St. Barnabas chaplain and the caring staff helps to ease transitions fraught with uncertainty, guilt, pain, and fear of separation.

St. Barnabas is unique among its competitors in maintaining its ecumenical origins and close community ties. It is one of the few area facilities with a chaplain on staff since its beginnings in 1965. Our ministry seeks to address the whole person. We recognize the spiritual component greatly affects the physical dimension, and thus quality of life.

Basic components of the St. Barnabas Pastoral Care Program include:

  • weekly worship service in the Bonner Chapel
  • pastoral care tailored to divisions
  • counseling
  • visitation
  • ministry of presence: lunching with individuals, joining in activities
  • listening therapy
  • family supprt
  • funeral planning

The Pastoral Care Program incorporates the diversity of faith among our clientele and actively pursues an interfaith approach to meeting a wide range of spiritual needs.
