ASSISTED LIVING CARE SERVICES OVERVIEW

St. Barnabas Assisted Living fills the need for senior adults who require more care than Independent Living but who don't need the more intensive medical care of the nursing home. The Assisted Living residents utilize all of the services provided to the Independent residents and also benefit from assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating. The residents enjoy a worry-free lifestyle that includes meals, laundering of linens and bed sheets, monitored medications, 24-hour a day care from certified staff, and portable emergency call system that allows the residents to summon for immediate help.

Upon admission, each resident is provided with a Level of Care (LOC) assessment. This assessment insures that residents receive the care they need and are only charged for the services they require. A level is assigned to each resident through a tabulated system. A service level is then assigned which results in a daily fee of $0 (independent) to $25 (level 4). Assessments are completed within the first week of admission and quarterly thereafter. Interim assessments are completed if a significant change is apparent. The LOC assessment is especially useful as a care-planning tool. It provides an ongoing assessment that monitors the residents' health status, helping to assure prompt and appropriate care as needed.

Medication management is a key reason why many residents choose Assisted Living, and this is of primary importance at St. Barnabas. The staff nurse evaluates medications weekly and staff members are trained to monitor medication administration. All medications are locked and only accessible by the staff person on duty. Careful medication documentation is maintained and the physician is notified of any medication concerns.

A medical facility is only as good as its staff members. Staff members are carefully selected based upon their genuine interest in serving seniors. Staffing consists of an LPN and Certified Nursing Assistants, all with substantial experience in the nursing home environment. Staffing is never less than one staff member to every 13 residents and licensed nursing staff are provided 7 days a week. Ongoing training in the areas of customer service, safety, and understanding the aging process is provided.

St. Barnabas is a home where the residents' happiness and satisfaction are of primary concern. The residents meet new friends, learn new activities, and take part in new adventures. Residents quickly discover that this is a family, rich in the relationships that matter most. We laugh, we cry, we learn, we reach out to others. Residents don't simply live at St. Barnabas. They experience life at St. Barnabas!

Assisted Living units are unfurnished apartments to promote Independence. Residents bring own furnishings.
