Assisted Living Care Overview
St. Barnabas Assisted Living serves seniors who require more care than Independent Living residents but don't need the intensive medical care of the nursing facility. Assisted Living residents receive all of the services provided to Independent residents and also assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating. The residents enjoy a worry-free lifestyle that includes meals, laundering of linens and bed sheets, monitored medications, 24-hour a day care from certified staff, and a portable emergency call system that allows the residents to summon for immediate help. On admission, each resident is assessed for Level of Care (LOC). This assessment ensures residents receive the care they need and are only charged for the services they require. A level is assigned to each resident through a tabulated system. A service level is then assigned which results in a daily fee of $0 (independent) to $25 (Level 4). Assessments are completed within the first week of admission and quarterly thereafter. Interim assessments are completed if a significant change is apparent. The LOC assessment is especially useful as a care-planning tool. It monitors the residents' health status, helping to assure prompt and appropriate care as needed. Medication management is a key reason many choose Assisted Living. The St. Barnabas staff nurse evaluates medications weekly and staff members are trained to monitor medication administration. All medications are locked and accessible only to the staff person on duty. Careful medication documentation is maintained, and the physician is notified of any medication concerns.
