Nursing Services

Daily care requirements must be met for all residents and be directly related to the level of care required. Nursing provides 24-hour care and includes such services as dressing changes, medication administration, observation and assessment, and oversight of certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Regulations require that a registered nurse (RN) be on site for at least eight hours per day (this can not include the director of nursing). Treatments such as labs and radiology procedures are provided as needed. CNAs are licensed assistants who provide bathing, grooming, hygiene needs, and assistance to the residents with activities of daily living. At our current full capacity, the total nursing staff provides 4.4 hours of direct care per resident per day. This more than doubles the licensure requirement of 2.0 hours total nursing care per day.

A wound care program provides seven days per week coverage and is coordinated by a registered nurse serving as a wound care nurse coordinator. This RN provides wound care as well as education on prevention for the staff. All care provided is under the direction of the attending physician and/or the nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner makes rounds in the building five days per week and is available on call as needed. A physician retained as the medical director is responsible for all resident care policies and ensuring these policies are implemented.

Dentistry, optometry, and podiatry providers are contracted to see residents in the facility on a regular basis, but residents also make outside visits to other physicians that may be managing aspects of their care.
